The Hôtel Prince de Galles, an Art Deco icon
The Prince de Galles was inaugurated in 1929 by André Millon, owner of the Grand-Hôtel and Le Meurice, to become the new flagship of the empire created by his father. Numerous celebrities would not have missed the inauguration for the world. From Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Chamberlain to the King of Yugoslavia, Lili Damita and Marlène Dietrich, many quickly became loyal customers.
Built on the site of the former Chaillot quarries, which were also used to construct the Arc de Triomphe, the Prince de Galles was designed in 1928 by architect André Arfvidson in the Art Deco style. Inside, the hotel retains some of its finest decor: the former patio with its red and gold mosaics has been restored by Bruno Borrione, and now houses the Bar Les Heures.
After closing for two years for major renovations, the Prince de Galles is now offering for sale the furniture that was not retained during the refurbishment of its spaces: an opportunity for Art Deco enthusiasts to acquire a piece of the history of this legendary institution, where celebrities and crowned heads have succeeded one another, from Dalida to the King of Yugoslavia, not forgetting Elvis Presley, who visited every weekend during his military service.
