Model of the Bendego meteorite reproduced life-size. This meteorite was discovered in 1784 in Bendego near the present-day town of Monte Santo in the state of Bahia by Domingos da Motta, a farmer. According to the traces of oxidation the meteor was present there for thousands of years. The found object weighs about 5360 kg and resembles a small asteroid because of its cylindrical holes created by the combustion of troilite (a sulfide present in meteorites) during the passage of the atmosphere. It is the largest iron meteorite found in Brazil. Since 1888, Bendego was exhibited in the National Museum of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. When the building burned down in 2018, space objects (12 meteorites) were the few survivors of the flames. Painted plaster model with a wooden frame. Meteor size: 144 cm x 230 cm Period: 1980s
