JEAN BESNARD (1889-1958 )Vision de Chine,... - Lot 23 - Ader
JEAN BESNARD (1889-1958 )Vision de Chine, unique piece 1925Spectacular ovoid vase, with a recessed line at two-thirds of the height, mounted and covered most probably original. Proof in white glazed porcelain earthenware; the base revealing the ground of the bottom. The base and the cover in turned and stained wood; a plate also in turned and stained wood joined in order to mount the vase in foot of lamp. Signed and dated Jean BESNARD 1925 and marked Pièce unique, in engraving under the base. Height vase alone : 57 cm Height with base and wooden lid : 80 cm Note: Given the use by the artist of a clay rich in kaolin and requiring a high temperature firing, it is likely that Jean Besnard made this unique work in the kiln of one of his potters friends or, at least, in a kiln that was not his own . Thus, this vase could be considered an attempt at a new path (later abandoned) or an exercise in style.
