Anonymous The liner France (CGT 1962) at Saint-Nazaire The liner France (1962-2009) was the last French transatlantic liner. The ship was launched on May 11, 1960, in the presence of General de Gaulle and his wife Yvonne (the ship's godmother). The France entered the water at 33 km/h, and seven minutes later, six tugs brought her to the Joubert form and then to the Penhoët quay, where the finishing touches were completed in 1962. On February 3, 1962, the France made its first transatlantic crossing. Silver print on baryta paper, from digital file (black & white lambda print) French Lines dry stamp in lower right margin.
