Launch of the liner Normandie (CGT 1935) on October 29, 1932, at the Penhoët shipyard.
The slipway is covered with 52 tons of kerosene, tallow and lard soap to facilitate the sliding of the enormous ship. At 28,100 tons, her hull weighs twice as much as that of the Ile de France. The Normandie (1935-1947) was one of the longest liners of its time. With its many facilities (dining room, grill restaurant, chapel, grand salon, boutiques, shooting gallery, theater, cinema, library, winter garden, sports hall, swimming pool, etc.), its luxury was unheard of at the time.
Silver print on baryta paper, from digital file (black & white lambda print)
French Lines dry stamp in lower right margin. Stamp "French Lines 30/11/2024 Edition Spéciale N°: 1/1" on verso.
