First-class swimming pool on board the liner Normandie (CGT 1935), circa 1935-1942
The Normandie (1935-1947) was one of the longest liners of its time. Composed of three classes, there was plenty to offer on board. The first class (also known as cabin class) occupied 70% of the ship and accounted for half the passengers. With its many facilities (dining room, grill restaurant, chapel, grand salon, boutiques, shooting gallery, theater, cinema, library, winter garden, sports hall, swimming pool, etc.), its luxury was unheard of at the time. The first-class swimming pool was adorned with mosaics designed by Victor Menu and produced by the Manufacture de Sèvres. Two hunting horns by sculptor Jean-Gabriel Chauvin adorned the pool.
