First-class cabin, with private veranda, aboard the liner Normandie (CGT 1935), circa 1935
The Normandie (1935-1947) was one of the longest liners of its time. Composed of three classes, there was plenty to offer on board. The first class (also known as cabin class) occupied 70% of the ship and accounted for half the passengers. With its many facilities (dining room, grill restaurant, chapel, grand salon, boutiques, shooting gallery, theater, cinema, library, winter garden, sports hall, swimming pool, etc.), its luxury was unheard of at the time. The cabins (after which the first class was named) were furnished by the Maison Dominique and the upholsterer Lelièvre. The large armchairs were commissioned from Marcel Perreau. The corner beds and wardrobes were designed by Schmidt in partnership with upholsterer Edmond Petit. The carpets are by Leon Emile Bouchet.
