Byron Company - Lot 130
Byron Company
Photomontage advertising the Normandie (CGT 1935) in New York, showing it sailing through Times Square in front of the Paramount Building.
The Normandie (1935-1947) was one of the longest liners of its time. Her luxury was unheard of at the time, and the French Line was keen to promote her: as early as 1935, the CGT asked the prestigious American agency Byron & Cie (with whom the French Line had been collaborating for several years) to produce a complete reportage of the ship from bow to stern. The agency also took charge of promoting the ship across the Atlantic, creating photomontages and unpublished photographs.
