Studio Chevojon - Lot 149

Passenger and bellboy in a tourist-class cabin on the liner France (CGT 1962).
The liner France (1962-2009) was the last French transatlantic liner. Iconic of French luxury, onboard service was a testament to this refinement. Grooms, or "little servants in livery", or "apprentice sailors", form a staff that is both discreet and omnipresent on board. They contribute to excellence at sea by providing a variety of services to passengers. On the France, there were 32 of them, all wearing the same red and black uniform with silver buttons. On deck from 7 a.m., each had his or her post and was assigned to a specific area of the ship.
Silver print on baryta paper, from digital file (color lambda print)
