Ghizalne SHALI (b. 1973) Histoire de Tripes HT039 2018 Plast - Lot 19
Ghizalne SHALI (b. 1973) Histoire de Tripes HT039 2018 Plastic waste embroidered with silk thread 100 x 100 cm Born in 1973 in Meknes (Morocco). Lives and works in Marrakech (Morocco). Ghizlane Sahli embroiders, sculpts and draws. She tells the story of an inner, organic journey with a universal dimension. With the help of ancestral techniques and the know-how of the craftswomen around her, she develops her contemporary ideas. Together, they create three-dimensional embroideries, including "L'Alvéole", from the scraps she collects. The Alvéole is the elementary particle of her work. It is the cell whose accumulation and proliferation create the work. Sahli uses thread (silk, wool, plastic or metal) to weave and celebrate the subjects that stimulate her: The human body, in its generality, and the female body in its intimacy. She draws her inspiration from metaphors with nature to express her inner self and her emotions. Pure emotion, cleansed of any religious, social, educational or generic input. With her sister and two photographer friends, she formed the Zbel Manifesto collective, which explores waste. Today, Ghizlane continues her work with the help of women artisans. Together, they research new ways of handling silk thread. She imagines poetic, dreamlike worlds where she can experiment and build bridges between her three passions: space and volume, stemming from her training as an architect; silk thread, from her immersion in the world of embroidery; and the environment, from her questioning of sustainable development and the future of the planet. In this way, she enjoys transforming matter, exulting in it and giving it meaning. Her work can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the V&A, the MACAAL in Marrakech, the Fondation Blachère in Provence, the Fondation H in Paris, among many other collections.
