ANAHIT One of the principal figures of the Armenian pantheon, Anahit is the goddess of fertility, birth, beauty and water in Armenian paganism. Antoine Agoudjian, born in 1961, has devoted himself to photography for over 30 years. A former member of the Rapho agency, his decisive encounters, notably with Robert Doisneau and Robert Delpire, place his work in the Humanist photography movement. His black and white work is dedicated to the memory of the history of the Armenian people. Covering the historic sites of conflict, Antoine Agoudjian creates an original body of work in which history, its traces and echoes break the imposed silence. Since 2015, the introduction of color in his work, with the coverage of the wars in Iraq, Syria and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), testifies to a new stage in his work, moving from the memory of the past to present history. At the Bayeux-Calvados war correspondents' prize, he was one of 10 nominees for the photojournalism award, winning the 1st prize from the public in 2017. In 2021, he was awarded the 1st prize, Visa d'or CICR, for his work in Nagorno-Kharabagh.
