Makhi XENAKIS (b. 1956) Vertige 2016 Dry pastel on tracing p - Lot 39
Makhi XENAKIS (b. 1956) Vertige 2016 Dry pastel on tracing paper, framed 53 x 69 cm Work sold with certificate of authenticity. Born in Paris, where she lives and works, she divides her time between sculpture, drawing and writing. She divides her time between sculpture, drawing and writing, studying architecture with Paul Virilio and creating sets and costumes for the theater, notably with Claude Regy. In 1987, she was awarded a scholarship to the Villa Médicis hors les murs in New York, where she had a decisive encounter with Louise Bourgeois, whose introspective, emotional approach to her work has continued to grow ever since.
Her works, marked by metamorphosis and memory, can be found in public and private collections such as : Orlando Museum of Art, USA, Centre Georges Pompidou, Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, Manufacture des Gobelins, Domaine de Chaumont sur Loire, Domaine de Kergéhennec, FNAC, CNAP, Musée national d'art moderne et contemporain en Palestine (UNESCO), Bibliothèque nationale de France, Artothèque de Caen, Musée des Beaux-arts de Brest, Maison Rouge, Collection RAJA-Art contemporain, Hôtel d'Agar Cavaillon. Her literary work, published by Actes Sud, delves even deeper into these questions, exploring the creative process through her intimate dialogue with Louise Bourgeois, her work on the legacy of her father, the composer Iannis Xenakis, and her own creation.
She is currently taking part in the "Engagées" exhibition with a group of sculptures entitled "Les folles d'enfer de la Salpêtrière", produced in parallel with the publication of the book of the same name by Actes sud in 2004: Fondation DATRIS, l'Isle sur la Sorgue, until November 2, 2025.
