Muriel PENICAUD - Lot 6
Muriel PENICAUD Above the Peaks, 2016 Somme Bay, France Photograph by Muriel Pénicaud, “Above the Peaks, 2016,” black-and-white print (59 x 83 cm), mounted on aluminum, white wood art frame with 25/5 molding, Marie-Louise style, glass. 83 x 107 cm One-of-a-kind piece in this format Muriel Pénicaud is a photographer, author, and social activist. Passionate about photography since the age of 11, she has developed a humanistic and poetic approach inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson’s maxim: “To photograph is to align the head, the eye, and the heart.” Her vision reveals the invisible and captures the ephemeral—those fleeting moments of poetry found in everyday life. Whether it’s the flight of a bird, the depth of a gaze, the meaning of a gesture, the soul of trees, or women’s liberation, her photographs bear witness to her quest for wonder and her social commitment. She has been exhibiting internationally since 2017 (Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Pondicherry, Dakar, Barcelona, Athens). In 2024, Skira published her first monograph, *Matrice des Mondes*, with a foreword by photographer REZA. The book explores the three primordial forces—earth, sky, and woman—the original matrices that our species needs to survive and regenerate. That same year, she won the Julia Margaret Cameron Prize and several international awards; she exhibited at the Museum of Photography in Saint-Louis (Senegal) and participated in the Indian Photo Festival in Hyderabad in 2025. In March 2026, the Civico Museo Parisi Valle in Maccagno dedicated its entire exhibition space to *In Cielo, In Terra*, the first major solo exhibition devoted to Muriel Pénicaud in Italy, featuring nearly seventy works over a three-month period. A former Minister of Labor in France, ambassador, and business executive, she continues her commitment to women, youth, and the arts, notably through the Sakura Foundation, which she founded to support emerging artists engaged with social issues.
