Makhi XENAKIS - Lot 7
Makhi XENAKIS Vertige Pastel drawing on white cardboard Signed lower right and dated 2017 68 x 53 cm Work sold framed Born in Paris, where she lives and works. She divides her time between sculpture, drawing, and writing. She studied architecture with Paul Virilio and designed sets and costumes for the theater, notably with Claude Regy. In 1987, as a fellow at the Villa Médicis hors les murs in New York, she had a pivotal encounter with Louise Bourgeois, which infused her work with an introspective and emotional dimension that has continued to grow. Her works, marked by metamorphosis and memory, are featured in public and private collections such as: the Orlando Museum of Art, USA, the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, the Manufacture des Gobelins, the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, the Domaine de Kergéhennec, the FNAC, the CNAP, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Palestine (UNESCO), the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Artothèque de Caen, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest, the Maison Rouge, the RAJA-Art Contemporain Collection, the Hôtel d’Agar in Cavaillon... Her literary work, published by Actes Sud, delves even deeper into these issues while exploring the creative process—notably through her intimate dialogue with Louise Bourgeois, her work on the legacy of her father, the composer Iannis Xenakis, and her own creative practice. In 2025, she participated in the exhibition “Engagées” at the DATRIS Foundation with a group of sculptures titled “Les folles d’enfer de la Salpêtrière,” created in conjunction with the publication of the book of the same name, published by Actes Sud in 2004.
