The former Grand Hôtel Continental is not only a renowned hotel in the heart of Paris, it's also a place steeped in history. Located on rue de Castiglione, this emblematic establishment, which opened its doors in 1878, has stood the test of time, evolving with historical events and architectural trends.

The story begins in 1878, when architect Henri Blondel designed the original building. At the time, the building, known as the Hôtel Continental, was a masterpiece of Haussmann-style architecture. Built to meet the needs of a wealthy clientele, the hotel quickly became a meeting place for European aristocracy and celebrities. With its ornate facades and sumptuous interiors, the Hôtel Continental embodied the refinement of the Belle Époque, welcoming prestigious guests from the outset.

Among them, Empress Eugenie, widow of Napoleon III, stayed there every year between 1889 and 1919, in a 2nd-floor suite overlooking the Jardin des Tuileries. The poet Victor Hugo presided over two grand banquets in her honor to celebrate her 81st and 83rd birthdays in the hotel's sumptuous Salon Impérial, in the company of many other leading personalities of the time.

In 2005, the hotel changed its name to The Westin Paris, and in 2010 became The Westin Paris Vendôme, consolidating its position as one of the capital's most prestigious hotels.
