Singapore Born in the Netherlands to a Canadian father and Dutch mother, Paolo Woods grew up in Italy and has since lived in London, Paris, Haiti, and Ivory Coast. He is currently based in Florence. He is dedicated to long-term projects, where photography is a tool for investigating the contemporary world. Each body of work evolves into an exhibition, a book, and publications in leading international media outlets. Woods has presented solo exhibitions in France, the United States, Italy, Switzerland, China, Japan, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Haiti, and has participated in numerous group shows worldwide. His works is held in major public and private collections, including the Musée de l’Elysée, Unipol, the French National Library, FNAC, MAST, the Saud Al-Thani Collection, and the Servais Collection. The author of eight books, Woods has been widely published and reviewed in outlets such as The New York Times, Le Monde, and The Guardian. He is a recipient of multiple international awards, including two World Press Photo prizes. He is the co-founder of RIVERBOOM, a collective and publishing house dedicated to exploring the boundaries of photographic language, and co- director of the documentary film Happy Pills (Arte TV). Between 2022 and 2025, he has served as Artistic Director of Cortona On The Move, Italy’s leading photography festival, and is also a founding member of KOMETA, a French quarterly print magazine of long-form journalism and photography.
